Picnics

The City of Orinda offers three picnic areas for rent for 3-hour periods, Monday through Sunday, dawn to dusk. Permits allow exclusive use of the designated picnic areas only (picnic tables and BBQs); other nearby park areas, and structures (grassy areas, playgrounds, and restrooms) are open to the public, for all to enjoy. 

Community Park Gazebo: 28 Orinda Way, features a small gazebo and can accommodate up to 30 people, with 4 picnics tables, and two small camp-style, charcoal grills on site, with access to the rest of the park, with grassy meadow and two playgrounds - we do recommend a parent and/or guardian supervises the child(ren).

Orinda Oaks Park: Moraga Way between Ivy and Hall drives: can accommodate 30 people, with 5 picnic tables, a double-sized charcoal grill and a sink, next to a flat grassy area and a pétanque court (bring your own equipment).

Wilder Picnic area: Orinda Fields Ln, located by Wilder Field 2, can accommodate 50+ people, with 8 picnic tables and 1 small camp-style, charcoal grill. Picnic area is located near tot playground and comfort station.


PICNIC PERMIT / RESERVATION PROCESS


  1. Fill-out and submit a completed Private Picnic Rental Application via email to OrindaParksandRec@CityofOrinda.org. Picnic Rental Applications will be processed during Front Desk administrative operating hours; to view operating hours visit cityoforinda.org/587/Office-Hours.
  2. Once the application has been accepted and processed by City Staff, a permit will be emailed to you. Please initial, sign and return the permit to OrindaParksandRec@CityofOrinda.org within 5 business days.
  3. Complete payment:
    • Credit Card Payment: Once we have received and processed your signed permit, you will receive an email to process payment online. If needed, the office can assist over the phone by walking you through the payment process. 
    • Check Payment: please make the check to City of Orinda. The check must be received and processed within the 5-business day timeline. 

IMPORTANT: If you have not returned the signed permit and completed payment within 5 business days, your "tentative" date and time will be released. 


POLICIES AND PROCEDURES


  • Refunds are not provided. 
  • Reservations are confirmed after an application has been submitted, fees are paid, and you have received a reservation confirmation (transaction receipt and permit that reflects payment). If a signed permit and payment has not been submitted within 5 business days, your "tentative" date and time will be released. 
    • If the date has been released, and reservation is requested a second time, payment is due at the time of booking, and a signed permit must be submitted immediately.
  • Applications that are submitted less than 5 business days in advance, require full payment at the time of booking. 
  • No plastic tarps, tents, or stakes on/in any grass area. Inflatable structures, jump houses, ponies or dunk tanks are not allowed. No BBQs (other than what are provided in the park) are allowed without prior approval by the Parks and Recreation Director.
