Monteverde Senior Apartments

The City of Orinda selected Eden Housing, LLC to develop affordable senior residences at 2 Irwin Way (site of the former library). Development of affordable housing is mandated by state law and compliance with state housing laws allows the City of Orinda to receive over $300,000 in road maintenance funds annually through Measure J.

Eden Housing received approval to construct 67 units on 2 Irwin Way and a 10-space community parking lot at 10 Irwin Way.

Project Status - Approved & Completed

  • July 26, 2011 - Land use entitlements (design review, exceptions, tree removal permit) were approved by the Planning Commission.
  • July 11, 2012 - The California Tax Credit Allocation Committee approved Eden's tax credit application clearing the way for Eden to secure the balance of the funding necessary to build the project.
  • January 2014 - Groundbreaking began.
  • June 2014 - Eden Housing will be hosting four community meetings a the Orinda Community Church, 20 Irwin Way for prospective residents. According to Eden's project manager, interest in the project is strong and they have over 700 names on their interest list. Workshops were held in June, 2014.
  • September 2014 - Scheduled completion date of the 67 apartments. These units are reserved for seniors in the extremely low - to very low-income categories
  • December 2014 - Eden Housing completed the building and those 67 apartments are occupied with new and happy tenants.
