Winter Basketball

OYS Winter Basketball is returning in January 2023! Registration will be offered for Kindergarten – 5th grade divisions.


Registration Dates

Registration will open at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26 and close at 11:59pm on Sunday, November 6.

Season Dates

League practices will start on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 and first games will start on Saturday, January 21, 2023. The 8-week season will run through March 18. Games will not be held on February 18.

League Information

All teams in K – 3rd grades will participate in a 45-minute practice one day a week Tuesday-Friday. Kindergarten and 1st graders will practice at Wilder’s Art & Garden Center or Orinda Community Center’s Founder’s Auditorium. Second and third graders will practice at Del Rey or Glorietta Elementary Schools’ MPRs. All 4th-5th grade teams will not have a mid-week practice, and these players will participate in a one-hour session on Saturdays at Wagner Ranch Elementary.

Kindergarten and 1st grade teams will consist of 10 players, and games will be 4v4 at Orinda Intermediate School. Second and third grade teams will consist of 10 players, and games will be 5v5 at Wagner Ranch Elementary. Fourth and fifth grade teams will consist of six players, and games will be 3v3 at Wagner Ranch Elementary.

*Please note that all facilities are subject to change and that a division (ex: Girls 4th/5th) may be dropped if there are not enough registrations for that specific group.*

Registration & Volunteer Coaching Information

To register, please visit our online catalog and click on the Youth Sports tab to locate the correct age division. Teams are created based on coach/friend requests, school location, and randomization. Any parents/guardians interested in volunteer coaching can fill out interest on the registration prompts. COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines

Much has changed since last year; the most significant being we will no longer be enforcing and asking players, coaches, and families to wear a face covering/mask. Current COVID-19 department guidelines can be found here.
